Fruity Heart Skewers
These fruit skewers are a healthy Valentine’s treat to make with your little one. Little chefs can help with cutting out the heart shapes and putting the fruit onto skewers. Try any combination of fruits you like and have fun mixing and matching on each skewer.

-
Carefully cut the watermelon into slices of about 1 ½ cm thickness. If you find it tricky to cut, slice it lengthways first then lay cut side down so it doesn’t roll while you are slicing.
-
Use the cutters to cut out the heart shaped pieces from the watermelon slices. Scrape out the flesh from the offcuts to use for snacks or in a healthy smoothie recipe.
-
Hull the strawberries and cut in half down the middle.
-
To assemble the skewers, thread the heart shaped watermelon pieces, raspberries and strawberries onto the skewers in any combination you like. When threading the strawberries, push the skewer through about ½ cm above the point of the strawberry to ensure it will hold onto the skewer securely.
-
You can assemble the skewers and keep them covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Mix up the fruit any way you like: try honeydew melon, grapes, pineapple, mango or kiwi.
