October half-term is the perfect time to prep for Halloween. From baking to decorating, here are my tips on how to get your little one excited about Halloween.

  • Focus on fruits: There are so many varieties of fruits and so many colours that it’s easy to get creative. Like squashed brains (mashed banana), blood (squashed red fruits), spiders (raisins with legs). You can also make freaky fruit by drawing spooky faces on tangerines and bananas or try my Frozen Monster Bites.
  • Spooky shapes: You can turn an ordinary snack into a festive bite by simply using a shape cutter. Try my Halloween-shaped Tortilla Chips with Guacamole and Blood Red Salsa.
  • Get baking: You could try making homemade cakes and sweets so you can control the amount of sugar in them. Why not try these Fruit Muffins from the Little Dish family cookbook.

If you’re stuck for ideas on how to keep your little one entertained, here are some fun family activities.

  • Pumpkin picking: Get ready for Halloween and take your little one pumpkin picking. Such a lovely way to show them where veggies come from, and you can carve them into spooktacular creations when you get home. Don’t forget to take your wellies as there are sure to be lots of muddy puddles.
  • Carve or decorate a pumpkin:  Such a fun way to get hands on with food and delight little ones as they see their pumpkin light up.   Try these spooky stencils and don’t forget to tag @littledish and don’t forget to tag.
  • Pumpkin prints: This is a great activity to explore creativity and best of all, get messy! Simply cut your leftover pumpkin into shapes for your little one to dip into washable paints and print onto paper.
  • Spooky decorations: From ghastly ghosts to creepy spiders, little ones can create spooky masks just in time for Halloween. Try this spooky pumpkin mask created by Little Dish.

If you have lots of leftover pumpkin, why not try these delicious recipes from the Little Dish family cookbook. Yummy Pumpkin Bread or warming Pumpkin Soup, the perfect festive family supper.

I hope you all have a very Happy Halloween making lots of magical memories!
